'Thor' looks likely to be helmed by another Nothern Ireland director for it's upcoming sequel. Talented television director Brian Kirk is in talks to take the reigns from fellow countryman Kenneth Branagh (who has opted not to return for the sequel after being offered to return) and make his feature film debut helming 'Thor 2.' Kirk has been directing high quality televison productions up until now, his directorial credits include Game Of Thrones, Luther, Dexter, The Tudors and Boardwalk Empire to name a few.
It is believed his work on 'Game Of Thrones' jumped him to top of Disney and Marvel's director shortlist due to his abilities of having to juggle large ensembles of actors and complex storylines in his TV projects, while also grounding the fantasy genre. The 'Thor' sequel is expected to feature a large cast of Aasgardians and creatures in the Norse mythology-set world.
Don Payne, who co-wrote 'Thor, ' is currently working on the script for the sequel which is expected to go in to production next year for a July 26, 2013 release date.
