Oscar-nominated Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker) will join Tom Cruise's character Ethan Hunt as a secret op in the Brad Bird directed JJ Abrams/Cruise produced Mission Impossible IV.
Renner who has already been cast in another upcoming big production 'The Avengers,' is recognised by Paramount as someone who can infuse new blood in the franchise. He is seen as the future M:I lead with his role as the new operative as someone who has the range to carry on the franchise in the future should Cruise decide to depart the film series, with Paramount's production chief Adam Goodman commenting that Renner "has a Daniel Craig quality".
The film is set to shoot this Autumn and no details have thus far been released, other than Cruise commenting on the films premise that "It's sick. It's fun, really fun."
