"It is going to be awesome," Trejo promises. "We duplicate scenes from the trailer in the movie. What that movie has is the three B's, what I like to call the three B's. And what that is is babes, bullets and blood. And then it's got machetes, too. The film takes off from the trailer and then it just gets so over the top. I think the movie really lives up to the trailer. I'm really, really proud of it."'Machete' Grindhouse Trailer
Fans can expect to see Trejo performing motorcycle jumps and throwing machetes. Oh, and: "I dive out of a window on a guy's guts. It's really just unbelievable."
The film features an all-star cast, including Marin and Jeff Fahey reprising their roles in the trailer, as well as Robert De Niro, Jessica Alba, Lindsay Lohan, Michelle Rodriguez, Steven Seagal and Don Johnson.
"What a cast," Trejo says with a whistle. "I asked Robert, 'How did you get that cast?' He said, 'My wishing rock.' You know, like in Shorts. Everybody wanted to work with Robert Rodriguez."
Trejo talked up Alba's role in particular: "What surprised me was Jessica Alba plays a badass in this. We were doing one scene where she gets up on this car and she's looking for me. Her line is, 'I'm looking for a man just like you.' And when she yelled that, everybody was like, 'Hey!' You know, raising their hand [laughs]. And she laughed and was kind of embarrassed. And I know when she yells that in the theater there's going to be a lot of guys who are like, 'Right here!'"
The prospect of satisfying the trailer's huge cult following may be a tall order, but Trejo knows what he's up against and he's not worried.
"Machete has a huge cult following, just from the trailer," he says. "I mean, in London, I was signing this guy's back because he'd gotten that picture of Machete tattooed on his back. I mean this big. I said, 'Boy, I hope you like the movie.' He says, 'We really like the trailer.' But after this comes out, he might have to go get another tattoo."
