Clint Eastwood's Gran Torino has claimed the number one spot at the US box office. The film, which is expected to be Eastwood's last in a acting role held off some stiff competition.With weekend takings of $29 million, Gran Torino is also Eastwood's biggest box office opening as a director beating previous record of $18 million, set in 2000 for Space Cowboys.
Gran Torino is released in Eire and UK on 20 February 2009.
