David Fincher Gives A little Insight Into Ness
MTV got a chance to get some insight on director David Fincher first comic book adaptation “Ness” based on Brian Bendis and Marc Andreyko’s comic series, “Torso“. Here's what he had to say on the project and how it will differ from the comic:
“I loved [comic books] as an eight year old, but I was pretty much over it by the time I was 11,” Fincher explained in a recent interview with MTV News. “There’s so little dialogue in comic book movies that isn’t about narrative, where you have to be next, and how to get the talisman and why it has to be in a leadlined box. Maybe this is my own cynical nature but I feel like most of the time people speak it’s to position an understanding. I’m less interested in what characters say in a movie than what their faces look like while they’re saying it. I’m always more interested in how people lie than how they tell the truth.”
“Not to take anything away from Bendis, who did an amazing thing, but it’s a pretty complete reimagining of it,” Fincher said. “Certainly from a stylistic standpoint it will be Bendis’ world, but from a story standpoint, it’s not just Ness in the moment. It’s not a linear chronology. It’s more like ‘Rashomon’ or ‘Citizen Kane.’ It’s an exploded version of it.”
Frank Miller's Next Is Buck Rogers
Frank Miller and Odd Lot Entertainment, are looking to re-team again on bringing Buck Rogers to the 21st century, says THR.
Odd Lot is in negotiations to option the rights to "Rogers" from Nu Image/Millennium, which obtained those rights this year from the Dille Trust. Millennium is expected to get a credit on the movie but won't be involved in day-to-day production.
Miller will write and direct the film but there is no word if this will take proierty over Sin City 2?
Baz Luhrmann To Take On The Great Gatsby
Looks like you will not have to wait another 7 years to see Baz Luhrmann next film as THR has the news that Baz Luhrmann officially acquired rights to "The Great Gatsby,". Luhrmann had this to say on the project:
"If you wanted to show a mirror to people that says, 'You've been drunk on money,' they're not going to want to see it. But if you reflected that mirror on another time they'd be willing to."
He added, "People will need an explanation of where we are and where we've been, and 'The Great Gatsby' can provide that explanation."
He said that he wants to move quickly on the "Gatsby" project. "I'm going to move faster than I have before. I'd be surprised if it's another seven years,"
Stephen Chow No Longer Directing The Green Hornet
Variety has the terrible news that Stephen Chow has dropped out as director of "The Green Hornet" over creative differences, but he will still play Kato in the film.
The studio and producer Neal Moritz are in the process of setting a new director to keep the picture on track to begin production by spring. This news makes flicksnews a very sad panda!

Check This...'The Snowman'
The book and film have no words, instead telling the story through picture, action and music. The cartoon version was scored by Howard Blake who wrote both music and lyrics of the song "Walking in the Air" and also composed and conducted the complete orchestral score for the film with his own orchestra, the Sinfonia of London. The film's one song, "Walking in the Air," was written specially for it and performed by a St Paul's Cathedral choirboy, Peter Auty.
A true masterpiece and still as magical now as it was when first released!

Keanu Reeves Talks Cowboy Bebop
MTV got a chance to chat with Keanu Reeves about his plans to bring anime classic Cowboy Bebop to hollywood, could anime be the new comics for Hollywood, heres what Reeves had to say:
“Oh yeah, cool,” he said when I asked him about the flick recently. “We’re trying to do that.”
“It’s got a Western quality, a Western film noir aspect to it,” Reeves said of why he’s such a big fan of Shinichiro Watanabe and Keiko Nobumoto’s groundbreaking series. “It’s got so much style to it, and that’s part of its appeal. That kind of Old West, bordertown, low-tech science fiction aspect.”
“We’re taking the Red Eye [story], the beginning part of the series,” he explained, “and then we’ll deal with the end of the series. We’re trying to figure out [the time frame]. We’re looking at the story right now.”
“Yeah, it’s so episodic and so disconnected. We’re trying to figure out what pieces to put together to tell one story,” he explained. “Because it’s such a short form, to make a 2 hour version [will be tough]. And it’s got so much of an origin-story obligation; you’ve got to get people up to speed, but you don’t want to do much of that. There are a lot of things to take into consideration, but we think we can do something good.”
With devoted fans all over the world, and a complex universe to depict on screen, Reeves knows that it won’t be easy to make a “Cowboy Bebop” movie. “Yeah,” he grinned when reminded of these facts. “But that’s why you want to do it.”
Tim Robbins To Be Howard Stark?
Bit of Iron Man 2 casting news today as latinoreview is reporting that Tim Robbins will play Howard Stark in Iron Man two and two of the Avengers will show up the article states:
Tim Robbins is going to be playing Howard Stark in an important flashback sequence that is going to set up the Avengers and Captain America films. Jon [Favreau] wanted to get a good actor because he didn't think the guy who played Howard in the last film could carry such an important scene.
I'm also told that HAWKEYE and BLACK WIDOW are definitely in Iron Man 2 and they wont be cameos either.
Gael Garcia Bernal Country Star?
Lucky for us Gael Garcia Bernal is not retiring from films for a music career just yet, this is for his new film Rudo y Cursi, for which he reunites with Y tu mamá también co writer Carlos Cuarón and Diego Luna. Cannes describes the film as:
Y Tu Mamá También costars Gael GarcÃa Bernal and Diego Luna are reunited on the big screen in Rudo y Cursi, a delightful romp of a comedy drama deftly directed by Carlos Cuaron.Beto (Luna) and Tato (Bernal) are a pair of rivaling, dim-witted brothers who work on a dusty banana ranch and play soccer for their local team. Jack Black & Jessica Alba Office Bound
Jack Black and Jessica Alba will appear in an upcoming episode of The Office.Both Alba and Black will reportedly star in a bootlegged movie that boss Michael Scott shows to the staff of Dunder Mifflin during the work day. The episode is expected to involve a “disaster” of some sort, one that’s linked to Dwight’s training as fire marshal.It is also expected the roast of Michael Scott will take place in the second half of the episode when Michael requests that his employees roast him.
The special hour-long episode titled "Stress Relief" will premiere February 1 on NBC after the Super Bowl.
David Fincher Talks Heavy Metal
With the project still in doubt David Fincher has talked to MTV to shed some light on the new Heavy Metal animated feature, he claims that Gore Verbinski and Zack Snyder are still on broad to direct segments for the animated feature. With such powerhouse directors behind you think it be a no brainer to get it made, here's what Fincher had to say on the project:“We’re still trying to get that made,” Fincher told MTV News.
“I’m ready to bat clean-up. I’m ready to do whatever story no one else wants to do. We have like twenty-four stories and artwork for it. Zack Snyder is picking one and I think Verbinski has one that he likes. We’re seeing where it ends up. I have time to do one or two and I have dibs on eight or nine, so somewhere in there we’ll figure it out if we can ever get the money together.”
“There’s no ‘Blade Runner’ without ‘Heavy Metal.’ There’s probably no ‘Alien.’ It was such a fertile breeding ground,” explained the director, noting the magazine’s influence on today’s digital animators. “Wherever you go in the world you go to any computer animation company and there lying around is ‘Heavy Metal’ magazine.”
“The world will at some point be ready for something other than singing, furry f–king animals,” Fincher told MTV.
Frank Miller On Sin City 2 And Hard Boiled
MTV got to have a word with Frank Miller about the status of Sin City 2 which he replied:“Sin City 2,” to which Miller replied, “I’ve written ‘Sin City 2.’ Its all written. Now we’re just working out the mechanics of getting it there. Marv is in there and I hope it’s Mickey Rourke. I’ve got my Ava, but I really don’t want to talk about casting because it could end up being somebody else and I wouldn’t want to insult her.”Also he was asked about any projects in the works, Miller hinted that his own comic Hard Boiled is in development:
“‘Hard Boiled’ is in development,” said Miller, of his book which followed a grizzled android detective. “But being in development isn’t the same as being on the marquee.”

Don Cheadle On Iron Man 2
IGN recently caught up with Don Cheadle to get his views on replacing Terrence Howard as Col. James 'Rhodey' Rhodes in Iron Man 2.IGN: How did you get involved with Iron Man 2?
Cheadle: I got a phone call from my agent saying they were offering me the part. That was kind of it. It happened very fast, and I had a very short time to answer. Literally, overnight. I was unaware of what was happening with Terrence. And when they called me I asked what was going on with Terrence. I've worked with Terrence, I've known Terrence for a long time. And they said they were moving away from him. So it's not like I was taking Terrence's job, because the job was already gone. Someone else was going to do the part. I don't know who the next person in line was, but that's who they were going to. And I literally had a few hours to accept the job or not.
IGN: How much can you reveal about the story?
Cheadle: I can't reveal anything because I've seen nothing. I have no idea. There's no script yet. All I know is as much as you know, that Rhodey looked at that suit and said, 'Next time.' So I imagine I'm going to be in a suit.
IGN: Did they explain whether they're expanding the role in the next film?
Cheadle: Not in any sort of detail. I mean, I think the part will be bigger, obviously. I mean, in the comic book, if you just read the comic books, you know that character becomes pretty instrumental in Iron Man's life, so it's not a sidebar character. It's kind of integral to the story.
IGN: Are you excited?
Cheadle: My kids are excited. I mean, it's great. It's a great opportunity. I'm glad to be a part of something like that. I tend to try and keep my excitement and all of that stuff at a level which has helped me survive 25 years in the business. I've been in movies and haven't made the cut and I've been on the set of movies and somebody's come up and gone, "Ah, we're not making the movie anymore." So I wait until it's done and it's shot and then it comes out and people see it and I can go, "Yeah, I'm in that movie."
Bryan Singer Uncertain What He Will Do Next
The New York Times has published an article about Bryan Singer's new film 'Valkyrie' and questions him about what he might do next.Mr. Singer's next move is uncertain. A plan to direct an adaptation of Randy Shilts's Harvey Milk biography, "The Mayor of Castro Street," fell apart when Gus Van Sant's "Milk" beat the project to the finish line. And Mr. Singer tenses visibly when asked about his potential involvement in a "Superman" sequel. "I really don't know," he said. Last summer Jeff Robinov, the president of Warner Brothers, told The Wall Street Journal that "Superman Returns" "didn't quite work as a film in the way we wanted it to" and failed to "position the character the way he needed to be positioned."
Mr. Singer says his own love of Superman lore may have given the movie the weight of too much nostalgia - "I'm learning to introduce characters a lot quicker and more aggressively," he added - but he is otherwise disinclined to second-guess his decisions or even revisit his past work.
After promoting "Valkyrie" internationally, he plans to take a short vacation, then look for "something big, fantasy or sci-fi."
"I really like the buildup to a movie like that: the prep, working with the art department, the planning. I've always wanted to make big movies, and I still do. Unless another really interesting plot to kill someone comes along."
Zombie Returns To Halloween
Its been confirmed by Variety, and ShockTillYouDrop.com that Dimension Films and Rob Zombie are teaming up for "Halloween 2," for an October release.Zombie will write and direct "H2," the sequel to his 2007 reinvention of the John Carpenter horror classic. Production will begin in March.The new film picks up right as the first remake ended, following the aftermath of Michael Myers' murderous rampage through the eyes of the sister he hunted. Zombie had this to say:
"I am very excited to be working with Bob Weinstein again and returning to the world of 'Halloween.' The remake laid the groundwork, now it's time to really take Michael Myers to the next level. I believe we've just barely scratched the surface of where we can take this series."
"I am thrilled to be making 'H2' at Dimension, the home of the 'Halloween' franchise for the last 15 years," commented Malek Akkad. "I look forward to working again with Bob Weinstein, as well as a filmmaker of Rob Zombie's talent and stature."

The Terminator Will Return For 5th Installment
Halcyon Co. executives Derek Anderson and Victor Kubicek are developing a fifth installment of the "Terminator" franchise with Terminator Salvation director McG, reports Variety.Christian Bale has signed on in the role of John Connor for all three films in the newly planned trilogy. The next installment, after Terminator Salvation, is tentatively scheduled for a 2011 release.
The Crow Gets The Remake Treatment
Stephen Norrington whose previous work includes Blade and the abomination that is The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, has signed on to direct and write a reinvention of The Crow, based on the comic created by James O'Barr, variety reports. Norringtion and this to say on the remake:"Whereas Proyas' original was gloriously gothic and stylized, the new movie will be realistic, hard-edged and mysterious, almost documentary-style," Norrington said.
The Phantom Returns
Associated Press has news that a sequel to the 1996 The Phantom starring Billy Zane, is now in the works. The latest adaptation, which is expected to cost $87 million, will focus on "the Father/Son relationship, and what it means to be The Phantom," scriptwriter Tim Boyle said in a statement."The film will be set in the present day and will deal with the concept of destiny."Producer Bruce Sherlock, who also served as executive producer of the first Phantom movie, said the new film will be a marked improvement over its predecessor.

New Images And Details From Robert Rodriguez Latest Shorts
Here is the first look at Robert Rodriguez’s new film Shorts. The official plot synopsis is:Set in the suburb of Black Falls, where all the houses look the same and everyone works for Black Box Unlimited Worldwide Industries Incorporated, whose Mr. Black’s Black Box is the ultimate communication and do-it-all gadget that’s sweeping the nation. Other than keeping his parents employed, however, Mr. Black’s Black Box has done nothing for 11- year-old Toe Thompson, who just wants to make a few friends… until a mysterious rainbow-colored rock falls from the sky, hits him in the head and changes everything.
The Rainbow Rock does Mr. Black’s Black Box one better: it grants wishes to anyone who holds it. Before long, wishes-gone-wrong have left the neighborhood swarming with tiny spaceships, crocodile armies, giant boogers… and outrageous magical mayhem around every corner. But it’s not until the grown-ups get their hands on the Rock that the trouble really starts. Now Toe and his new found friends must join forces to save their town from itself, discovering along the way that what you wish for is not always what you want.
The film stars Jon Cryer, William H. Macy, Leslie Mann, James Spader, Jimmy Bennett, Kat Dennings, Trevor Gagnon, Leo Howard, Devon Gearhart, Rebel Rodriguez, Jake Short, and Jolie Vanier. It is expected to be released in theaters for August 7th 2009.
Kenneth Branagh Confirms He Is Directing Thor
MTV got a chance to talk Kenneth Branagh, in which he confirmed that he is directing Thor for Marvel. He had this to say about why he chose to make the film and casting:
So what’s the appeal of “Thor,” Kenneth? “To work on a story about one of the immortals, Gods, extraordinary beings, inter-dimensional creatures,” he enthused.
He continued excitedly, “There’s science fiction and science fact and fantasy all woven into one. It’s based on Norse legends which Marvel sort of raided in a brilliant way.
“There’s been lots of talk [about casting] — I sound like a politician — but we are too early at this stage. We’re getting the story and the visual effects together and all of that is very exciting. Someone sensational is going to play the part but it is early days.”
“It’s a chance to tell a big story on a big scale,” said Branagh. “It’s a human story right in the center of a big epic scenario.”

'Twilight' Sequel 'New Moon' Gets New Director
EW.com are reportng that Summit Entertainment is about to hire Golden Compass director Chris Weitz as the helmer for New Moon, the second installment of Stephenie Meyer's best-selling Twilight series. Weitz co-directed and co-produced American Pie with his brother Paul Weitz and they were later nominated for an Academy Award for best screenplay for About a Boy, which they also co-directed.
The Brothers Bloom Gets Delayed
Seems your gonna have to wait a little longer to see Rian Johnson’s 'The Brothers Bloom' as slashfilm is reporting that Summit Entertainment have decided to delay the release of the film from early January to May 15th 2009 in select markets, and May 29th wide.

Oliver Stone To Make A Documentary About Hugo Chavez
Variety reports that Oliver Stone is to make a documentary about Venezuela's controversial President Hugo Chavez.
Stone has been working on the untitled doc for six months and is hoping to have it ready for next year. Stone is also working on a second doc, details of which he is keeping under wraps.
Pop Pop Says Arrested Development Is GO!
There has been way too much speculation as to whether the Arrested Development will ever actually happen, well good news Pop Pop himself Jeffrey "George Bluth Sr." Tambor has told Collider that he has got the call that it is happening, the article states:Not sometime near in the near future; not talks are ongoing, it's happening. "Arrested" creator Mitch Hurwitz has made the calls and while there's no set start date, as Tambor put it, "when the writer/director calls you, it's a pretty good sign."Even Keith Olbermann reported it so yes we can finally rest easy and recognise there is some justice in the world, the Arrested Development is a GO!
