Tarantino Archives have the scoop that Eli Roth is not only starring in Inglourious Basterds but is also directing the “film within the film”, which stars Daniel Bruhl as a Nazi sniper and a group of GIs on a suicide mission.
Those of you following our coverage of the production process of Inglourious Basterds may have noticed that the man himself was strangely absent from most of the pictures and YouTube videos that leaked from the set in Goerlitz, where scenes for the “film within the film” were filmed. I am surprised how little attention this has drawn upon itself, but then again a few candid videoclips don’t necessarily mean anything. Could it be a 2nd unit shoot? Was Quentin somewhere in the background? None of the above, actually. The reason we didn’t see Quentin Tarantino in a “where’s Waldo” fashion somewhere in that footage or these pictures is simply, that he didn’t in fact direct it. Eli Roth did. That’s right, none other than “the Bear Jew” was the guest director for the “film within the film”, which stars Daniel Brühl as a Nazi sniper and GIs on a suicide mission.
