Haruki Murakami’s Norwegian Wood Gets The Big Screen Treatment

Director Trần Anh Hùng who is currently working on I Come with the Rain revealed his next project will be directing a Japanese language adaptation of Haruki Murakami’s most celebrated novel Norwegian Wood. This is only the second of Haruki Murakami stories ever to get adapted to film with the first been Tony Takitani. If done right this could be a classic.

The novel is a nostalgic story of loss and sexuality. The story's protagonist and narrator is Toru Watanabe, who looks back on his days as a freshman university student living in Tokyo. Through Toru's reminiscences we see him develop relationships with two very different women — the beautiful yet emotionally troubled Naoko, and the outgoing, lively Midori.
